The adrenaline to reward ratio on this adventure was definitely one of the highest! We visited in May when the Spring snowmelt was near peak. This shot from the day was my favorite, a closeup of the details within the many streams.

I had been chasing an elusive foggy sunset with conditions just right to create smooth 'fog waves' across the hills. This particular evening the fog kept coming up the hill, lapping at my perch. I am glad I stuck it out because it eventually receded enough to capture some brilliant light of the setting sun!

My first visit to this remote falls in the great Pacific Northwest did not disappoint! After a particularly wet winter, the snowmelt had given away to a gushing falls. It is said that no two seasons are ever alike as the driftwood and greenery change each year quite drastically. In the BTS footage below, I have fastened a lens hood to try and keep the spray out of the camera which was a tall task that day.

During this hike I was treated to some of the most incredible views I had ever seen! I was rushing to make sunset as I trekked across the ridge and noticed that the clouds kept shifting above, casting the numerous waterfalls in alternating light and shade. I stopped along the way just in time to capture a light ray shining on the falls in the distance.

When we reached the lookout on the summit it was completely fogged in so we turned around to head back down the mountain. On the way back down we stopped by the empty parking lot of a canyon lookout point and noticed that the rain had subsided. A nice rainbow had formed across the sky and as I started capturing the scene a second rainbow appeared! I had never seen a double rainbow up close like that so I was quickly taking photos and wiping off my lens in between each shot from the drizzling rain that started to come down. A ray of light perfectly illuminated the waterfall in the distance.

A memorable blue hour observing the low fog sweep around the Golden Gate Bridge. A perfect window seemed to open up right as the sun descended to reveal one of the towers and the rush hour traffic below with two parallel roads wrapping around the hill!

One of my favorite memories is coming across these falls and being the only people there to enjoy them in the early morning light. Definitely one of my top waterfalls I have had an opportunity to witness and photograph.

I was fortunate enough to witness the 'firefall' event that occurs some winters when the setting sun strikes the horsetail falls at just the right angle to make it glow red. This photo is from a February 2019 snowy and windy winter day. We had spent the entire previous day scouting this unmarked location. I'll never forget the echoes of cheers throughout the valley as observers witnessed this phenomenal event! Nature's wonder on full display. The behind-the-scenes footage below doesn't begin to do the experience justice.

From the slightly lesser known Lower Antelope Canyon. This slot canyon is entered by carefully descending into a narrow passageway. The narrower canyon walls reflect different colors depending on the season as compared to the wider canyon floor of Upper Antelope Canyon. The video clip below gives you a sense of the walls up close. Truly a wonder of this world!

I arrived at this remote spot in the southeast of Iceland in the evening and had to scout the location in the dark which is not ideal. The previous evening I had witnessed the northern lights for the first time and I was running on adrenaline to capture them even more brightly this evening as the aurora forecast called for the highest activity during the entirety of my trip. Upon finding this beachhead I setup my camera for a time lapse series. It was relatively calm however strong gusts would creep up at random times including one which knocked over my gear. The resulting crash you can see in the footage below.

An unforgettable evening witnessing a rare, sought-after LFE (low fog event) during blue hour. The only sounds were from the distant waxing and waning of traffic and the periodic fog horns of the ships passing underneath, somewhere below us. The ‘foglapse’ video footage below is a time lapse from late afternoon as the fog was getting higher on the ridge line.

At one point the wind picked up and started blowing the snow off the cliff leading to this 'inferno.' We were treated to a truly magnificent spectacle that day! I was lucky to witness the 'firefall' multiple times during its showing in February 2019. A gusty winter day led to a unique scene where snow blowing off the cliffside reflected the setting sun leading to a 'cascading firefall' all the way down the backside of El Capitan! Calla Lily peak bloom season in Northern California is a tight window during late winter/early spring. After a particularly rainy day I was able to spot this patch off the road along with a moody early spring sunset.

This scene reminded me of the throne from Game of Thrones. After scouring the beachhead on a crescent moon night I was about to give up having not found the composition I was looking for. I decided to search one further location that I had originally missed in the satellite geolocation view. Upon arriving at this scene I knew it was the one I had been searching for. This is a composite of 2 shots from the same scene, 1 with foreground in focus and 1 with Milky Way and stars in focus.

The Banyan Tree is native to India and was first introduced to the Hawaiian landscape by missionaries. They can grow to over 40ft tall and have a canopy circumference spanning a quarter mile. The tree is one of the most revered in India, taking on the personality of a kind and generous ruler that nourishes all. This particular Banyan in Maui made the hike to get there that much more worthwhile.

Waking up for sunrise in this desert location was an otherworldly experience well worth the crazy midnight off-road and 5am alarm. Being the only souls around for miles, alone in this martian landscape. What a blessing.

The repel down to this magical spot was a lot more difficult than imagined. At one point I nearly lost my backpack in the cool waters while traveling down. The basalt column walls of this unique location deep in the forest frame the waterfall perfectly.

There are so many abstract shapes in these slot canyons that you could visit 100 times and see something different each time. I have not seen too many black and white photos highlighting the cracks and curves so I decided to try something different with this image.

This image is from my adventure capturing the rare phenomenon known as a ‘moonbow’: when full moon light strikes the spray from large waterfalls it creates a nighttime rainbow affect. Conditions must be ideal such as enough spray from the falls (April-June) and proper angle of shining full moon light relative to the observer. The BTS footage I have featured below illustrates the differences in brightness and detail in a long exposure (15sec) timelapse of still images vs video footage taken by a high ISO DSLR camera and f/1.8 lens.

I had heard tales of a 'keyhole' rock along the coast that lines up perfectly with the setting sun at select times during the year. The beach is quite isolated and looks like another planet in some ways. I arrived early, set up my gear, and watched in amazement as the sun began to gradually illuminate the walls of the 'doorway' leading to wild ocean beyond.

Seeing the natural wonders of the region encompassing the Utah/Arizona 'Colorado Plateau' is such a visually stunning and mind-opening experience! In Upper Antelope Canyon the local Navajo refer to this canyon carving as ‘the bear’. To me it looked more like a shark breaking the surface of the water for its next meal or...is it simply to catch some sun rays? It’s interesting how our minds can go to two very different places when presented with a scenario.

In Northern California I am always surprised at how prevelant redwood forest patches are. This particular falls was discovered after taking a 6-mile trail into the canopy of a local redwoods forest. The mid-afternoon light reflecting off the cascading falls made the hike all worth it!
